The polls are in and the state of Arkansas’ House Proposition 7 officially passed by one vote. Prop 7, or The Pig Prop will soon go into effect, and reads “The proposed constitutional amendment would designate Pig Latin as the official state language. All official speeches, meetings, and other proceedings of state and local governments, such as city council meetings and jury trials, would be conducted in Pig Latin, and instruction in public schools would be provided in Pig Latin. All documents of state and local government entities would be published in Pig Latin.”
The proposal was initially submitted by, then State Rep., Jonathan Dismang, prior to him retiring and taking an outside job with the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas just over two months ago.

Dismang, a graduate of Harding University, was well known for mocking University of Arkansas Razorbacks fans, often wearing a pig on his head while pretending to brush his teeth with the wrong end of an oversized toothbrush. He saw the piece of legislation as a last jab at hog-fans, and assumed it would be summarily dismissed. He was delighted when it made it to the ballot, but not surprised to hear it passed.
“At 53 percent, we have the 3rd worst voter turnout in the country,” he remarked at a correspondents breakfast earlier this morning. “And as only 35 percent of the whole state reads at an 8th grade level, I figured it at least had a fighting chance.”
The new law will go into effect on January 1st (Anuary-Jay Irst-Fay) of next year.
