…when we heed a certain call. When the world must come together as one. There are people dying, and it’s time to lend a hand… (dah, dah, dah)… greatest gift of all. We are the world. We are the children. We are the ones who make a brighter day, so let’s start giving… (something about people and food…) choice we’re making, we’re changing our own lives, dah, dah… hmmm, hmmm, hmmm… Just you and me. WELL, WELL, WELL, WELLLLLL, (Lauper) you need to (something) for dah, dah, dah, dah-dah, and love is all we need…YEAH, YEAH, YEAH, YEAAAAH!! And you just believe that there’s (something that rhymes with “all”). We are the world, we are the children, we are the ones that make a brighter day, so let’s start giving…we blah, blah, blah….dah, dah, dah-dah, dah, dah…and we stand together as one.
Id bin a nong dime dimp dem days!! The mid late eighties was a great time for music, food, and apparel. Obviously, I don’t recall all that much about the era, but I do remember sitting around singing this song and playing Spades til the wee hours of the morning. I always did the Huey Lewis part and Stevie. Tom Nelson did Willie Nelson and the Boss. Fathead did Kenny Rogers and Cindy Lauper, Politte was Hall or Oates and Lionel Richie. We rocked that song!!
But all good things must come to an end, and We Are The World slowly slid down the charts like a snail down the driveway, and now only exists in our patchy memories and latenight VH1 rockumentaries.
