Myopic United States Senator Peter Welch (D-VT) took a truly heroic stand this week when he introduced legislation that would limit Supreme Court Justice terms of service to 18 years.
“Setting term limits for Supreme Court Justices will cut down on political gamesmanship, and is a commonsense reform supported by a majority of Americans,” observed Welch who is serving just his first term in the US Senate…following a brief 13 year stint as a US Representative…just on the heels of a 24 year tour in the Vermont State Senate.
The Bill’s co-sponsor, Senator Joseph Manchin (D-WV), who is serving only his 4th term following his 5-year Governorship of the state of West Virginia after only 4 years as the WV Secretary of State, agreed. “Taking action to restore public trust in our nation’s most powerful Court is as urgent as it is necessary.”
