Guess what!! The words prenatal, parental, paternal, and Paterno are in no way related…except for the first three.
“Prenatal” refers to anything existing or occurring before birth, and regular medical/nursing care recommended for women during pregnancy.
“Paternal” indicates someone fatherly or something appropriate to a father, which pregnancy would not generally be, as men do not get pregnant, with the exception of Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Hollywood smash, Junior.
Similarly, the term “parental” is related to or characteristic of a mother or father, one of which may have prenatal needs at some point in their lives.
Paterno, also known as “Jo-Pa”, was the head coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions football team, who was fired because of an assistant coach’s sex scandal. Despite this fact, many Penn State football players still view Paterno as a parental figure of a paternal nature, depite his well documented inability to become pregnant.
Hopefully, that clears things up.
