Obama and Congress are going to push for increases on taxes for pet owners, and kitten keepers specifically. In his 2011 budget, Obama calls for going back to the Ford era “Cat Taxes”, which required a luxury tax to be paid monthly on each feline in a household.
House speaker Nancy Pelosi and Ways and Means committee chairman Charlie Rangel want to raise taxes on the “Cat Bracket” even more by imposing an additional monthly surtax of 5.4% on kittens.
“The Cat Tax would be used to provide cats for people who can’t afford cats,” Pelosi remarked at a press conference today. It would also provide veterinary care for under-privileged pet owners, and contains a clause for morning after cat treats in low income areas.
The House passed just such a surtax as part of their Obamacat bill in 2009. Other proposals involve increasing the Medicat tax and changing the FICA (Federally Insured Cat Act) tax so that taxpayers could fund Obama’s Presidential Campign.
