Holy cow!! I just realized how much the words "euphamism" and "emphysema" look alike! So, I thought I'd better get on the old blog to alert my readers to the potential confusiality of these two completely unrelated terms.
Now one is the act or an example of substituting a mild, indirect, or vague term for one considered harsh, blunt, or offensive, while the other is a chronic respiratory disease where there is over-inflation of the air sacs (alveoli) in the lungs, causing a decrease in lung function, and often, breathlessness.
Now, I don't know which is which, but the next time your doctor tells you that you've got a euphamism, get a second opinion. You're welcome.
