As angry protests over an anti-Islam film spread across the Muslim world Friday, some in the community used the religious fervor as an opportunity to strengthen family relationships.
Mohammed Ak Bukhr and his son Amir took part with demonstrators scaling the walls of U.S. embassies in Egypt today, torching part of a German embassy, and clashing with security forces at an American fast-food restaurant that was set ablaze in northern Cairo.
“It has been a very long time since we have had quality father/son time,” admitted Mohammed, “but today, Allah be praised, we are really connecting.”
The two began their day with Amir lighting an American flag on fire, under the close supervision of his father.
“He was reluctant at first, but soon he was stomping on the rags of freedom, dancing in the flames, and screaming ‘Death to the French ‘ at the top of his lungs,” the elder Al Bukhr observed, suppressing a smile. “I guess it is time I explained to him the difference between infidels and socialist cowards.”
