Marshall, Will, and Holly on a routine expedition…or were they? That’s right, I’m talking Land of the Lost. Now, I’m not here to bad mouth the effects, comment on the science, or even examine the effectiveness of the “Fly Swatter” to discourage the advances of an aggressive allosaur.
No, what I want to discuss is why Bill Laimbeer (stealing the scene to the left) is considered capable of coaching the Detroit Shock, but not qualified to get a speaking role on the show. Now, some of you may not be aware that Laimbeer played the part of Sleestack #2 (to dramatic acclaim) for two seasons of the original LOL series, but was repeatedly denied the role of Enik, the good Sleestack from the future, in spite of his achievements as a thespian.
That part was hoarded by such Hollywood hacks as Sir Lawrence Olivier, Robert De Niro, and Dustin Hoffman, alternately assuming the role as needed to cover the full range of complex emotion the character’s circumstances and superior intellect invoked.
Robbed of stardom in his younger years, Laimbeer may finally get his shot in the “biz” with the big screen version of the television cult classic coming to theaters near you this spring.
It’s funny how things work out.
